Calaf | 2019 | New construction
The new funeral home is located on a hill on the west side of the existing Calaf cemetery, overlooking the plain and the Hermitage of Sant Sebastià.
The new building is implanted parallel to Cemetery wall in continuity with the last extensions of the new cemetery in order minimize the impact on the landscape.
The design approach is to integrate this new pavilion as if it were another element of the cemetery: a longitudinally dislocated piece receiving a butterfly shape roof following the same profile section of the existing niche blocks and replicating the masonry walls tone of the old cemetery site by using traditional local materials such as brick and lime mortar.

El nou tanatori es situa a l’oest de l’actual cementiri de Calaf a uns 600m del poble, sobre un turó amb vistes a la plana de Calaf i al Turó de Sant Sebastià.
L'edifici es proposa paral·lel al mur del recinte nou del Cementiri i enretirat respecte el mur de contenció de formigó per minimitzar l’impacte sobre el paisatge de camps de conreu.
El volum del nou tanatori s'integra com un element més del cementiri: una peça dislocada longitudinalment amb cobertes inclinades, en papallona, i que seguint el mateix perfil dels blocs de nínxols existents recull les tonalitats dels murs de mamposteria del recinte vell del Cementiri, amb l’ús d’un material tant arrelat al territori com el maó ceràmic i el morter de calç.
